I’d like to announce a prototype/experimental extension to DownThemAll! which I call dTa! Background File Write1.
Basically this extension aims to off-load all file writing to a background “thread”, so that the Firefox user interface stays more snappy, and to avoid certain undesired stuff.
For more information about the tech-reasoning and source code, please consult the github page.
The extensions is experimental and only works with DownThemAll! trunk and Firefox 4 (32bit) on Windows right now.
Cheers
Nils
1 Yeah, call me the Leonard da Quirm of extension naming :p
DownThemAll! 2.0.2 was released. It is a maintenance release that fixes some bugs and adds new localizations.
This add-on version is currently available from our home page, but will become available from addons.mozilla.org shortly.

As we were last year as well, we’re a finalist in the 2011 About.com Reader’s Choice Awards in the category Best Overall (Non-Security) Add-on.
Thanks for your nominations. Having been nominated by our users is a great thing in itself. Thanks for your trust and support!
As always the competition is hard, and as last year, personally I voted for Adblock Plus.
